DIY: T-Shirt Headband

We all have those old T-Shirts just lying around, or maybe we wear them on "laundry days". Don't throw them out you can re-use them! Here is a quick an easy headband tutorial.

You'll need:
1 T-shirt
scissors
needle and thread
or if you'd rather not sew a hot glue gun

First, lay out your shirt flat.

Now cut the bottom hem off the shirt along the edge. set that aside we'll use it later.
cut 3, 1 inch strips. front and back of shirt together in the cut.

Cut off the ends of the shirt on both sides. keep the strips together in half though. Basically, you want to end up with six strips. Sew one end together and begin to braid, 2 strands together. a 3 strand braid.

See in the picture below you're braiding a 3 strand braid, but 2 strands at a time, 6 strands total.

Finish braiding and sew the other end. Hot glue it  if that's your preference. I just hand sewed this, but you can certainly use a sewing machine too.

Now remember the end hem of the shirt? We're going to use it here. take and cut a about 2 inches long. Sew the 2 ends of your braid together, then wrap in the hemmed strap and sew that closed. For extra security while sewing try to sew the hemmed strap onto the braid itself too.

This is a pic of how to sew the hemmed strap onto the braid. It's simple and sorry for the blurry picture!

You're completed headband, now you can wear it! These are great for working out or those days when you just don't want to do your hair, but still want to look good! Have fun with these try different colors.

Here's my princess wearing her new headband! She needs more in different colors now.

Stay tuned for a different version coming tomorrow! Out of 1 T-shirt you could easily make 3 headbands.
